Bobski Perhaps- Cheapest 44 special ammo?

Since you guys reccomend me using 44 special to hone my shills on my Taurus 44mag, who makes the cheapest 44 special for plinking and where do you order it from. All the places I looked (Sportsmans guide, midway usa, and cheaperthandirt) all had it bu tit was about one dollar at best less than the 44 mag. I dont have a reloader or the money to get a nice progressive setup, but I wish I did.


Also would the 12in barrel on my gun up the velocity of the 44 mag, and if so about how much?

    W-45, You would be surprised how little has to be spent to get set up reloading. I bought a kit from Lee for $67 that has a single stage O-ring press, scale, priming tool, shellholders and a bunch of other stuff. Granted, this is not a top of the line progressive setup, but I can turn out excellent quality ammo. I load for my .44 mag and .44 special. Once you have the brass, you can reload ammo for a fraction of the cost. I plan on upgrading my equipment soon to a 5 stage progressive. I buy bulk plated bullets from Berrys for the .44 special and they are very inexpensive and make excellent accurate reloads for target practice. That being said, I realize your original question was not about reloading, I just wanted to throw that out there. The cheapest ammo I have seen is the Ultramax bulk ammo from Dicks. I'm not sure if they offer .44 special, but the other calibers they offer are very reasonable.

    Most of the major wholesalers who supply the independent dealers carry the Magtech brand , it is made overseas. We have sold a lot of it in various calibers and everyone is satisfied with its performance. It is very reasonable priced and if you get your dealer to order it by the case for you it should be an excellent buy for you.

    Will the ever increasing popularity of the cowboy action shooting 44 spl ammo is about the same price as 44 mag and in many case even more expensive now. Magtech is about the cheapest 44spl ammo right now. Cabela's sad to say, has the cheapest prices you will find. %yrs ago I got 1200 rds of 44spl for 275$ the last time I checked, when they actually had it in stock, it 249$ for 600$. That's 20$ more than they sell 44 mag ammo for. Cheap .44spl ammo is a thing of the past I'm afraid. You can get Magtech 44 mag for around 14$ a box of 50

    I live in the boonies of Iowa. Literaly I live in a town called Boone. If I go to realoding which I know I should I would splurge for a progressive loader. If it helps I have an FFL so if I can get a deal that way let me know.

    You should reload for it. It is incredibly cheap to load for if you use lead bullets. My last handloads figured out to $.04 per round with my own bullets. With purchased bullets you would be at about $.09/ round.

    Unless you are shooting the cheapest Mil surplus calibers like 9mm or 7.62x39, handloading is the only way to go for economical shooting.
    As has been suggested by the good doctor, start with an inexpensive
    Lee outfit. Unless you are a competitive shooter a "C" press or two satisfies a lot of shooters.
    In 44 caliber there's a wide range of bullet weights and styles that
    are unavailable in commercially loaded cartridges.
