NIKON Variable Handgun SCOPE..Keep or Trade?

I have a Nikon scope on my S&W 629 PC. I was talked into the variable power when I only use the 2x or 3x setting--never pass those numbers because, with eyeglasses, it is very hard to see through it at higher magnifications. Should I keep it--wasting those extra powers--or trade it (sell it) and replace it with a RED DOT type sighting system?

Also, what kind/brand of RED DOT would stand up to the recoil of this revolver? (.44 Rem. Mag.) Best for the least money?

  I purchased a 2x7 Burris several years ago when I wanted a handgun scope like you I find it very hard to see thru on the higher side , the only thing it really is good for is shoot groups off the bench, I've since then purchased several different reddots , I have a tasco propoint for my turkey gun, a millet on my ruger mark II , and several bushnell holo sights , the holo sights cost the most but they sure work nice , I had one on a ruger SRH in both 454 and 480 and now its on my ar15, no problem so far

  Tough question Ramtinxxl. It is a quality scope, no question about that, but I must admit my hand gun scopes are mostly 2x and none over 4x. I too, would likely not use the higher end. I have not used reddot or holo sights, but if I could get enough for the scope that a new holo would not put me in the poor house, I believe I would make the change.
