Smith & Wesson Chiefs Special .40s&w?

I have heard that Smith & Wesson has discontinued this caliber for the Chiefs Special series and I am wondering if anyone knows why.Reliability,accuracy issues,poor sales?It seems strange they would discontinue the caliber that carries their name from a gun that carries their name in a world where compact carry .40 s&w's are extremely popular.Any help is appreciated becuase I would like to get a Chiefs Special but dont want it in 9mm and feel .45acp might be a bit much in such a small gun so .40 would be the way I would naturally lean unless they are known to be problematic.Any owners here or experience with or just the knowledgeable?

    I didn't know they made them in .40 S&W. Isn't the 40 an Auto round? When you can have one in 357 Mag why would you need a 40?

    The new chiefs specials not the old revolvers,the new ones are auto-loaders.

    I do beleive they make a Chiefs Special auto model. At least the first handgun I ever fired was a Chiefs Special in .45acp, semi-auto.

    Auggy how did that CS-45 feel.How bad was the recoil in such a small gun?

    Because it was the first pistol I had ever shot, and I was a 12 year old 120 lb kid at the time, the recoil seemed to make it jump out of my hand. I couldn't say how I'd rate its recoil now.

    I would guess they had limp wristing problems like Kel-Tec did and just discontuned them.Then they wouldn't have to listen to the cry babies complain that they jammed.[V] [:(]

    I used to own a Kel-Tec P-40 and the recoil from it wasnt bad at all and I only ever saw it malfunction once and that was when someone else was shooting it.Wasnt very accurate but very easy to carry.

    Most likely what caused the malfunction when someone else fired the gun was LIMP WRISTING. [:)]

    Only a guess. The .40 is a POS round. Poor accuracy and expansion compared to 9mm and not the stopping power of a .45. The increased muzzle energy doesn't translate to killing power. I own a Glock 23 in .40, never malfunctioned, but I hate the round.
    Likely poor sales.

    6burner...I think I replied to this topic on the other side, but the recoil in my CS-45 was not bad at all. They really aren't that "small" a gun compared to others. I loved my CS-9 and CS-45 and still rue the day I sold both of them.
