Seecamp .32 new ammo recommendations

This was just posted on the Seecamp sight:

AMMO RECOMMENDATIONS for LWS .32

.32ACP (personal preferences)

First Choice: Hornady 60 grain SJH/XTP; older style Winchester Silvertips (identified by no expansion cuts on bullet nose); Speer Gold Dot. Second choice: Fiocchi; Federal Hydra Shok; Glaser Safety Slugs.

LWS.32 pistols are currently test fired with Hydra Shoks. A pistol that will reliably feed Hydra Shok will also feed Hornady and Gold Dot, while the reverse is not necessarily true.

    Thanks for alerting us to this info. The bad news is that both Hornady and Gold Dot rounds are hard to find in my area. I've been using Hydra Shok with zero failures, however if Larry Seecamp says these other rounds are better I believe him. BTW I've noticed newer magazines, (those without the rubber pad), seem to reliably feed a wider range of rounds. Anyone have experience with both types of magazine??

    Kevin, I did not know there were 2 types of mags. I have 4 mags, 2 for each gun and they are all the same (no rubber pad) I looked on their web site and there are no pics with rubber pads. Are the rubber pads older or newer? maybe someone added them?

    Jim, I have an older gun made in 1986. The original mag has a rubber pad on the inside front edge. Newer mags do not have this pad. The pad makes the acceptable space smaller thus only the shorter rounds could be loaded. For example Cor-Bon will not fit old mag, but will fit new ones. I'm not sure what the purpose of the pad is but it is original as it is mentioned in the manual.

    Kevin, That is interesting. You also have a very early .32, I think they started making them in 85. Do you have a low serial number? When the stopped making the 25 did they go to a new serial number range?

    Jim, My guess, and that's all it is, is that the .32's began with new serial numbers. Mine is C6XX,... pretty low! Even as old as my Seecamp is, it performs flawlessly. Never had a failure. Only recently did I purchase a new magazine. That's when I discovered the difference. It is now appearant to me that my old mag spring is a little "tired" but it never fails to work. The only ammo to go through it are Silver Tips and Hydro Shok. Will try the new recommended ammo as soon as I can find some.
