savage 12bvss or savage 12 lo profile 223
well you would think in a city with 2.8 million people you coulf find a gun dealer that would have a great selection of guns so i could hold one of these before i spend the money on it but nope....nodda.
so if you own one of these please chime in.
i want a 223 lam stock stainless gun. is the bvss too heavy and bulky to carry in the field? i ahve held the avg savages and felt the accutrigger, so im sold on the savage over a ruger 77 target, but its down to these two guns. can the heavier bvss be used as a hunting rig or would you claim it as a bench set up?
and if you have one what accuracy did you get out of the box?

The Savage 12BVSS is heavy and certainly isn't a "pack at the ready" type rifle. Nor really is the Ruger 77 Target/varmint model. They can both be packed well using a sling and setting up shots over an area where you will find the game of your choice. I would recommend getting a bipod for either.
The heavy barrels of either will give you a minute bit of accuracy as far as rifles are concerned in the varmint area but won't make enough of a difference when it comes to hunting accuracy while hunting big game.
So if slinging the rifle and walking a couple miles into a 'gopher or prairie dog town I would think the Savage or Ruger target would be great. To walk the woods, rifle at the ready I would recommend going with something in the standard size class, Rem ADL, Savage 110, Ruger 77 Win 70 FXlite. Good luck

I own the Savage 12v blue heavy barrel with accru trigger and it's not a rig that I would want to carry in the field. Extreamly "nose heavy"! It is, however, one of the best bench rifles "out of the box" that one can buy. One ragged hole @ 100yds and I haven't started with the reloading experments yet! plus it's topped with a not so expensive bushnell 6x18 scope[:)]

I have one too -- too heavy to haul -- consider a standard weight Savage with syn stock and pillar bedding --- it's the pillars that make the magic I think. See if the new Savage Stevens has the cal you want, only 279 bucks. 0 -
forgot to mention accuracy out of the box - almost any combination - 10 shots into about 3/8 in. at 100. worst group ever- just under an inch- mine is a 112fvss 25-06 0
