which makes a better squirrel gun?

sorry i still havent seen many mach 2 ....... but a shoot a ruger m77 and i love it .......... when you hit that red tree rat it's like you took a big old bite out of him [xx(] no wind you can hit them a long way out good luck

17 HMR is a 22 Magnum necked down to .17, the 17 M2 is a 22LR necked down to .22 Either should be plenty for squirrels but the power level of the 17M2 ammo doesn't justify the additional expense over the 22LR IMHO

.17 M2 is OK for squirrels, but better suited to longer shots. Shots under 40 or 50 yards are going to destroy a lot of meat. I have shot cottontails with it at 90 yards and damage was similar to .22 LR hyper velocity at 10 yards. At 20 feet, the M2 really makes a mess of lb animals. Likewise, the .17 HMR is just plain too destructive for small game hunting. It is a close range varmint round.

Save the seals-club a liberal instead.
