remington 700 police edition
I am looking to buy a 700p in either 300 or 300 ultra mag which would be a better choice for elk hunting? and how much would a muzzle brake help with recoil?

i would think that a lighter gun would be better for elk hunting. lighter weight, not caliber. those snipers are heavy and i wouldn't want to carry it around all day.

I carried my 26" sendero SF in wyoming this year,..and although after 45min+ belly crawling it became cumbersome,..it payed off when the shot came. The PSS is carry-able.
as far as caliber,..either is enough. A break will cut the recoil considerably, but is wicked loud. The RUM will beat all,..but comes at a price in the wallet and shoulder.
why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....
