Spoting Scopes

What do you all recommend. I'd like to see one under two hundred bucks.

    any one have a shepeards spotting scope? tell me if they are worth the money. plan to use it to 200 yards, thanks

    Burris. You can probably find a deal on the scope/spotting scope pasckage if you look hard enough.

    What are you going to use it for? When going to the range I use a basic 20x60x?? cheapie Simmons. I always complain when my better quality scopes at 7 and 9 power show the hits, at 100yds, as well or better then the spotting scope set at a much higher power. When I go into the field and I want more power then my 8x binocs have, then I use a lightweight compact fixed 20x Burris that came with my fullfield II combo package. So, I repeat what do you want to use it for? If for range work, I'd suggest that you ask around when at the range and get folks to let you eyeball their spotting scopes so that you can get an idea what level of quality you will be demanding of it. Depending on your eyes you may well need more/less scope then others of us. If for open field work then it all comes down to how much weight and bulk are you willing to pack for the performance. I'm not willing to pack much more, thus the Burris.

    I will probably use the scope mostly at the range. The old timer I have now isn't to clear out two hundred yards. I'm going on a hunt here in the state for Oryx and could use then. Thanks for the replys.

    I had a BSA and it was a piece of crap. I have since found a HalleyScope spotting scope and it is freaking awesome!! It came with two eyepieces, one straight and one 45degree, tripod, and an adaptor to hook up a camera. This is an older scope that I bought at an auction, I believe it was made in japan and is very high quality(like alot of stuff from Japan, not China). Forgot how much I paid but for what I got I did get a heck of a deal.

    I have a Bushnell Spacemaster that I have used next to a Swarovski and have been able to see distant hawks more clearly (go figger). Does a great job for the price and it is my range scope. Try http://www.scopesnmore.com/ and http://www.eagleoptics.com/ for decent selection and prices. Both are reliable sources to deal with.
