Looking for 20 ga. for wife
My wife is looking for a shotgun with these features:
1. 20 gauge
2. Semi-auto
3. 21" to 26" barrel (useable for skeet, but not too long or heavy)
4. Wood stock (smooth, no checkering)
5. Under $500 (Ok, that is MY preference)[;)]
Lemme know if this gun exists.

why not go 1100 in 28ga? 1/2 the kick of a 20 and hits just as hard. checking is standard on all guns for safety. dont like it? sand it off.0 -

Here at GB there are currently about 70 shotguns listed under "auto loading" in 20 gauge. I didn't find any without checkering though.

1187's are the newer version of a 1100. i think 1100 is a better gun. straight grips take some getting use to. but i think youre on the right path. 0 -
Go to a big gun store and compare the feel of English stock to the standard stock . I personally don't like English stocks because you have to put a real twist in your right wrist when you snap it to your shoulder. A shotgun needs to go up to your shoulder comfortably and line up without a lot of neck or body adjustments.
Secondarily, this stock has CUT checkering which is desirable to most gun people but it is coarse to the touch compared to impressed checkering found on the older 1100s.
I'd recommend you handle these guns before buying.0 -
Ah yes, I do see the checkering now. It is hard to tell in that photo. I think you are right about investigating them first hand. Oh darn, another excuse to go to Sportsman's Warehouse or a gun show [;)]
The only way to know for sure is to have the Mrs. hold it. v35, I think I understand what you are saying about the English stock, but perhaps it would fit better in the hands of a smaller shooter? (5'2")
