Browning Buckmark question
Does anyone know what types of scopes the BuckMark Hunter model will accept? Also, do I have to buy a scope base or mount, or will a scope attach directy to the integrated rail?

Hello the rib is called a WEVER BASE this name is given to the base as it will accecpt WEVER !!! TYPE !!! rings many brands of rings will work. As far as what scope be aware that most people mount a red dot type sight on a pistol the red dot is only 1 power but a scope has a set eye relief a red dot does not.and a red dot allways have a full sight piture. It is easy to lose a full sight picture with a scope . Hope this helps 0 -
I have a Buckmark 5.5 Target with Burris 1.5-4X scope and Millett rings. It's probably the most accurate handgun I have. It shoots well with most brands of ammo too.
As far as Perry's comments about eye relief, that can be a problem with some handguns. I had the Burris 1.5-4X on two other revolvers before it found its way to the Buckmark. The Burris simply didn't have long enough eye relief for the heavy recoiling magnums with my shooting style, but with the .22 it wasn't a problem finding a comfortable shooting position.
Probably any scope would work well with any type rings directly on the rail of the Buckmark. The size of the scope's bell would determine what height rings you would need.0 -
So what you are saying is, I can use any scope at all as long as it fits? So for all that matter, I could use some huge 20x magnification rifle scope?
And I can use any rings that will attach to a weaver rail? There is a universal compatibility?0 -
Well, no, it would need to be a pistol scope. Eye relief is much longer on pistol scopes. If you put a rife scope on you would need to do your shooting with your eye about 2.5-3" from the ocular. Not the best shooting style to say the least. Also, pistol scopes are shorter and lighter than rifle scopes and are paralax free at closer ranges than rifle scopes. You are not likely to be shooting a .22 at targets 100 or more yards out there, so a rifle scope with 20x would only make it very hard to aquire the target at 25 or 50 yards. A red dot may be the way to go. I have Burris 2x on my Buckmarks, and they work just fine. 0 -

I have a Hunter SE and I mounted a Millett SP1 red dot on it with no problems at all, but one...
The barrel nut on the Hunter has been attached with Loctite and is not meant to be removed, according to Browning. I have tried and it won't budge. You have to remove the optics rail when breaking it down for cleaning. The rear screw will probably not be accessible with the optics on, so every time you want to clean the guts you will have to remove your optics.

It is not the scope its self that mounts to the weaver rail. You attach a pair of weaver type rings (the bases of the rings screw down tight on to the rail) and mount the scope in the rings. If you have not done this before, I suggest you have it done by a smith for a few dollars and watch carefully. It is not rocket science, but it is a little tricky to get it right. It needs to be mounted where the eye relief is correct (meaning when you look into the scope in a shooting position the sight picture fills the entire ocular with out black around the sides). It must also be perfectly aligned with the barrel and mounted so the cross hairs are very close to perfectly horizontal and vertical. I had one more question. What does the second digit mean on like 4x20 ? I understand the 4 means four times the magnification. But what would the 20 stand for? 0 -
Diameter of front lens . You need to look long and hard at scopes on pistols . a rifle scope is made to have your eye about 2 inches + or - from the scope . A pistol scope is made for this to be a longer distance a BUT a slight twist of wrist and it looks like sight picture goes black . This is not meant to be a slam but for a TYRO a red dot is much eaiser to use on a pistol. 0 -
Perry has it: diameter of the objective (front glass) in mm. A scope that says 3-9x42 is a variable with 3x magnification up to 9x magnification and with a 42mm objective. If you are new to hand gun shooting, start with open sights, unless your eyes, like mine are older and no longer focus clearly on the front sight. I have no experience with holosights or red dots, but they are sure worth a look and maybe perry shooter can point you in the right direction on those. 0
