Whast the difference - 16" Bushmaster, M4 or HBAR

I'm interested in a Bushmaster 16" A3 style - either the M4 barrel (Bushmaster model BCWA3F 16M4 with birdcage suppressor, telestock etc) or the heavy barrel version (still 16" A3 with birdcage suppressor, tele stock) (Bushmaster model BCWA3F 16).

Any thoughts on the differences in these barrels? Would there really be a difference in cooling/accuracy between them? Any other reasons to get one over the other.

Additionally - Any clue if these are threaded or pin on suppressors on these guns - I can't seem to find that answer online.

    I believe that the heavy barrel does help a bit in accuracy by reducing barrel "whip" when rapid firing and of course helps in cooling although the fluted barrels offer better cooling ability. I dont believe there is much difference between the M4 profile (wich i believe is considered heavy barrel also) and a plain heavy barrel as far as accuracy and cooling capacity goes. The cut out for the m4 barrel i believe is designed for grenade launcher attatchment. I also believe that most AR's with a 16" barrel will have a threaded muzzle whereas anything under 16" will have a pinned or fixed suppressor in order to meet the BATF legalities on the minimum of having an overall length of atleast 16". I have a m4 style AR and totally love it, although Iam sure a straight heavy would be just as fun to shoot. Hope that helps. SG

    I have been told that the HBAR marking on the Colt or "Heavy Barrel" marking on any other brand takes the gun out of the assault weapon category. That's highly desirable here in Maryland.

    Thanks all - interesting about the HBAR and BATF, i'll have to look at that. I don't have a real desire for the m-203 thing so the main allure for the m4 style is the "look". tough call - sounds like I cant go wrong either way... thanks!

    I cant seem to find a site with any official verification, but it seems for the state of Maryland, you're right!!

    I'm not sure in the post-ban era at the federal level how much that matters, where I'm at (NC) is at least moderately gun friendly, but I can imagine in some states that'd help. Definitely worth knowing about. Its as absurd and innane as most gun control legislation is :) It is quite obvious *(sarcasm on) that one's an assault rifle and the others not.... ;)
