Browning BAR vs. Remington 7400
I'm thinking about buying a semi-auto rifle in 308 winchester. I like the light weight of the BAR Stalker, but I like the price of the 7400 synthetic. Any thoughts?

I'm ready to add a semi-auto sporter to the collection. I had a Remington 742 years ago and was disapointed with the accuracy of the rifle. I'm now looking at the Remington 7400 and the Browning BAR, both in 30.06. The Browning is much higher in price, but is it worth the difference? Opinions please....

I dislike the 7400 design and would go with the BAR.

I had a BAR MKII Safari in .338 win mag in Alaska. It was a tack driver, worked every time I pulled the trigger and put nice moose meat in the freezer for me and mine.
I regret that I sold it.

Snoo, I have a 7400 and a BAR and they are both sweet rifles. The 7400(30-06) is more accurate than the BAR(25-06). The BAR is a far better looking gun and I like the bolt design better than the 7400. The 7400 was about $200 cheaper than the BAR. I'd say you will be very happy with either of these fine weapons. Just keep them clean. I have heard from quite a few people about broken extractors on the 7400 but mine has has been flawless so far.

Over the years I have had a few of both
one each in .308 never had problems with ether one
Look for a late 60s early 70s BAR
Just handles better for me.
