Where should the bullet impact be @ 25 yds, rather than 25 m.? Sight set at 1.

    If I'm reading it correctly, I think he's asking since the SKS's ajustable sight is in meters not yrds., if he has the rear sight set on 1 = (assuming thats 25m), what would the POI be at 25yds.? I think thats what he's asking.

    The 1 represents 100meters. You should read this it will help ya'out. At 25yds it'll be about 1" to 1 1/2" high.

    If I'm not mistaken...
    A meter is just a little longer than a yard

    1 mile = 5280 feet = 1760 yds = 1600 meters

    1yd = 3ft
    3.3ft = 1m

    So 1600/1760 = .9090909090909090.......

    Thus a yard is just less than 9/10ths of a meter.

    If you do the math a little more...
    A target at 25yds would be the equivalent of 22.75 meters,
    25m equals 27.5 yds. I would fiqure that that no matter what your sight incriments are(meters/yards) the actual distance isn't too different(25m or 25yds) given your not sighting in at 300+yds/m.
    At that distance the small difference is more like 300yds=272m
    300m=330yds.

    Hope I didn't confuse as I am half-way confused myself. I'm not good at teaching.

    Better to carry a pistol and not need it than need a pistol and not have it.

    Ah, it's an SKS. Just throw junk somewhere and shoot at it until you run out of cheap ammo. Big fun will be had by all.[:D]

    Take into consideration the fact that the line of the bore is below the line of the sights at the muzzle, by about 1.125 inches. So, if the rifle is sighted in at 100 yards with the rear sight at the 100 meter setting the impact of the bullet should be 1/2 inch or less above the line of the sights at 25 yards.

    Why would you want to shoot a highpower rifle at 25 yards? The nice thing with the SKS though is if you get a front sight tool, you can adjust the height of the peg to suit your distance...... so if you are hitting high, just raise the peg a few turns and you should be dead on.

    The bullet passes the POI twice. First at short range 25m and again at 100m (SKS-AK). It's much easier to set the height of the front sight for POI at short range, 25m. This is the basic zero technique used in the military to establish the battle sight zero. 1-1 1/2 inches doesn't matter much at 25m but at 300m it does. What effect does the difference of 2 1/2 yards (90 in) @ 25m make compared to 10 yards (360 in) @ 300m? This is using standard M43 ammunition @ 23-24,00 FPS.
