BSA Mauser ????
Here's another Mauser question..
I was given a nice condition BSA large ring Mauser action and I'm looking at having it barreled in .280. I do not have a guage that tells me the thread pattern. Any of you guys know this off the top of your knowlegable domes?? The best I can do is - 7 threads just under 3/4" so this tells me 12 tpi and the inside dia. of threads is 1.045.. Is this a standard Mauser thread??

The BSA Mausers with a large ring large thread used the same thread as the standard military Mauser, 1.100" x 12 TPI 55 degree V-thread. 0 -
According to my references BSA made a number of different models of centerfire bolt action rifles between the 1950's & 80's. Whether they all have the standard Mauser thread dimensions, is not clear.
De Haas gives the data for the one they made for Herters ( U-9 ), as being 1.115 OD, 12 "V" TPI.

Absolutely correct, except that the Herter's U-9, as manufactured by BSA in England, was not a Mauser by any stretch of the imagination. It was a uniquely modern designed receiver without any of the Mauser trappings that we are used to seeing. The U-9 is an excellent receiver in both short and long variations that was supplied to Herter's for re-sale as actions only, barreled receivers and complete rifles.

Given your measurements, it sounds like 1.100" x 12 TPI to me. The 'inside' or root diameter of the thread measurement will be off since you are measuring at an angle.

Given the obvious variance of OD diameter in at least some of the receivers/actions manufactured by BSA. Believe it would be prudent for you to accurately measure the ID, ( thread dimensions ) of your receiver before ordering a stock barrel blank with standard large ring Mauser dimensions. Or having a smith single point threads on a blank using these dimensions. 0 -
Thanks - I'm not certain on the design, but it is Mauser oriented, and it has a side safety. Serial HA178** marked Made in England and a few crown stamps..
