Vietnam shotguns
I was wondering if there were any other shotguns used in Vietnam besides Ithaca? A lot of pics and movies I have seen of Vietnam there is always someone with a shotgun, usually only one man. Thanks for your help.

I believe I saw somewhere that point men and perimiter patrols used the Winchester 1912 and Stevens models 520 and 620.

when nam first started all the armories were cleaned out of old shotguns from ww2 and pushed into service. all win m-12's and both stevens shotguns went into battle. even some 97 trench guns were used by the green berets and the marines took 97's off navy ship armories. they learned to like their history in battle thus they commandered them! not mentioned was a variation of stevens known as the M77E. it should be listed, it was the most used shotgun of the war. a variation of savage was issued for chopper pilots and was fitted with a 12" stock to fit snug in the cockpit. hope this helps.

I remember getting ammo for the 870 riot gun that I carried that was not 00 buck but looked like little arrows. Pointed on one end and fins on the other. Was reported that these little buggers would penetrate a flack jacket. Anyabody remember this type of shell? 0 -

Those are typically called flechette rounds.

BOBSKI IS CORRECT, I WAS A SMALL ARMS REPAIRMAN IN NAM AND WE HAD JUST ABOUT ANY 12GA. SHOTGUN EVER ISSUED. MOSTLY OO BUCK AMMO. I PERSONALY CARRIED A REM. M-11 MARKED MILITARY FINISH (TRIED TO SEND IT HOME... NO LUCK) 0 -
There were a lot of Winchester Model 97s and Model 12s in use during that era.
