Savage Mark II .22LR
Are they any good?
Here's the deal.
A huntin' buddy was given one the other day.Or maybe I should say "what's LEFT of one".
The buttstock's broken off(synthetic),the mag's gone and with a good cleanin' of all the metal,I might get it to 70%(surface rust).
The mag's no problem finding,but I haven't found a stock yet.Really don't want to have any more in this beater than nessesary,so I'm hopin' to find a used one.
Sportsman's Warehouse has them for around $150.
Is it worth the trouble if I can have it in useable shape for no more than say,$100?
Or should I just forget it?

Heres my Mark II. Haven't shot it yet though. Yea yea, typical 16 year old, all the goods but doesn't use them, haha. Hopefully tommarow I'll fire off a few rounds. Bought the gun for about $160, the bipod and scope caps came to a total of about $45? The gun as far as I know doesn't usually come with the simmons scope, but I guess the guy at the store decided to throw that in? I'll let you know how it is ASAP.

It's a little too recent a model, but it wouldn't hurt to try
www.ahlmans.com They might have a used one or a wood equivalent used.
Might also try Savage direct, Butler Creek or even look here on GB or the evil Flea-Bay. Any way, by the time you put a finish (www.midway.com ot www.brownells.com) and stock and get everything working, check Wally World's price before you get to deep. Unless it's a personal challenge or hobby.0 -
UPDATE!!
Since this thread got bounced back up.
I found a used synthetic stock and a 10-round mag over on another gun sight for $50.Big brown truck dropped it off Tuesday.
Got it together and everything seems to work perfectly.

Though a couple weeks old, and a few pages back, I finally fired off about 200 rounds through the gun yesterday.
In my personal opinion, it's a very nice little gun. I'm a total newbie, so take it for what it's worth. At first the bolt was a little tight, but seemed to losen up as I fired off a couple shots. Perhaps I got used to it, or maybe it got broken in a bit better? Anyways, we started sighting it in at 25 yards. Once we started getting it in, the tight groups started coming in [:)]. Towards the end of the day, I put a few bullets through the same hole. Still needs a bit more work on the scope, since it was shooting to the left a teeny bit, but nothing some tweaking can't take care of.
Overall, I really like the gun. Shoots very nice, and compared to say the 10/22 feels a bit lighter. Not sure if it is but certainly feels like it. Like I said though, I'm a total newbie (only 16) so take it for what it's worth [8D]
