I have a Colt single action Buntline Scout .22 with 9 1/2" barrel. It looks like someone at one time was going to re-blue it; the backstrap is without any bluing, the rest is in average condition. Serial #188486F. The bottom of the backstrap is stamped "LA's DEPUTY"
Does anyone know approximate manufacture date and value? Is there any significance to the stamping?0 -
Frame would take a big favor from God. I see the grips on the auction site from time to time as well as most of the other parts. 0 -

I aquired the gun from my father-in-law many years ago. It looks as though someone at one time tried to remove the bluing as the whole frame is a very light grey- pewter color. I don't know if that can be restored or not.0 -

"IF" your revolver is the Buntline version of the "Frontier Scout" series?. The frame is made of either Aluminum or Zinc alloy. More then likely your revolver is made of the latter. For some reason it's not uncommon for the finish applied to Zinc alloy to "fade" to a greyish color over a period of years. As this series of Frontier Scout revolvers were made by Colt over 35 years ago, it's to be expected.
