FN Mauser Info.
My uncle give me an FN Mauser chambered in 30-06 about 15 years ago. I was offered an opportunity to go hunting in west Texas this year so I needed a gun. I remembered that I had the old 30-06 so I begin to check it out to be sure it was ok to use. The first thing I found was that the stock was cracked so I begin to look for a replacement. I don't know anything about the gun so here I am. What is the story behind this gun? What exactly is it? The only markings are on the barrel "Firearms International Corp 30-06" and T106X (X= 8,9, or0 not sure which) on the action.

Well, I don't know about Firearms international specifically, but it sounds like an outfit that turned (then) plentiful milsurp weapons into cheap sporters. But that doesn't matter so much. If it is an FN, odds are it is a large ring Mauser. Does it have a military or sporter barrel on it? That is, is the barrel one long taper, or does it have steps? Either way, replacements can be had, though it might also be possible to fix the crack. Check www.egunparts.com for a military stock (or even fleabay) or www.midwayusa.com for a sporter. Some might also come up on gunbroker, from time to time. A post on the wanted board might also yield results.

Firearms International was a large firearms importer/dealer located in Washington D.C. They were in business from the early postwar years to the mid 70's. Over that span of time they imported many Commercial Mausers and actions fabricated at the F.N. factory in Belgium. As the previous poster noted your rifle has a M98 type of action, although it is a modernized sporting version rather then a converted military rifle.
Depending on when the rifle was made and imported, the markings will vary. If you could give us all the markings on the rifle, along with there location, it might be possible to narrow down the date of manufacture/importation.

What you have is an excellent commercial 98 Mauser. The FN factory in Belgium made Brownings for many years. Your rifle in my opinion is a better made gun than most currently manufactured ones.
Any standard 98 stock can be fitted to it,whether synthetic or wood.About all the optic makers have scope bases for it and 98 parts should you need them are available at many places.
Ramline,Bell & Carlson,Hogue and many others make a synthetic stock that it will drop into easily.
I would not hesitate at all to take it on a hunt anywhere.

There are three markings on the gun one on the barrel that reads Firearms International Corp. Cal. 30-06. The second is on the action and is the FN Mauser symbol and made in Belgium as well as T106X (X= 8,9, or 0 not sure which). And there are a few marking just behind the recoil lug on the bottom that I can't really make out. 0 -

According to my reference the "FN within a small circle" and "Made in Beligum" would be from later production. Also some of the later rifles ( 1963-1972 ) sold by Firearms International, used the Trade Name "Musketeer". My 2? is that your rifle would predate this.0 -
