stock chip

I got a small, (half-dime) sized chip on the stock of my BT100. It is where the stock attaches to the reciever. Anybody got any ideas on how to repair it? Im interested in the cosmetic aspects.

  this is what i have done in my shop in the past. i keep alot of old stocks and walnut in my shop for these situations.
  i carefully chisel out a small amount of wood to square the area up and cut a peice of wood with matching grain as close as possible and glue it in place then refinish the stock. using a special technique, sometimes the defect is barely noticeable if at all. this might or might not work in your situation

  Jimmy Jack, Do exactly as 260 says, paying particular attention to the grain. Done it several times and when finished can hardly see the repair.

  260 & RSq are right on. I would add try it on some scrap to build up some experience with the wood, glue, finish, etc before working on a good gun for the first time.

  Save some saw dust & press it into the glue line around the "patch"; this will minimize the border.
