Life of ammo
A Wal Mart around here has some Federal Premium 270 ammo (Regular $25) on sale for $13. I have no doubt the ammo is older (box kinda looks it). If the ammo is 10 years old, should it still be okay? I was thinking about picking up about 10 boxes. In all reality, it will probably take me three or four years before I shot it all up. What do you think?
ps. I don't need any anti Wal Mart comments. I am just looking for opinions on life of ammo.

I'm shooting 50 or 60 year old Turk 8mm out of my Mauser, 30 year old Korean and 50 year old US 30/06 out of my Garand and Springfield without problems.
I keep it stored in ammo cans with dessicant.

i just picked up some federal premium .308 with the old box it was $17.99, the new boxes were $27.99. in my opinion there was no choice. has a red white and black deer chevron on it and a red and black stripe on the left side of a gold box. 180 gr. nosler partitions. shot sub moa out of my fn pbr. loaded ammo should generally last longer than you would ever have it. i would pick up what i wanted and forget about it.

I just finally finished a box of Remington 30-30's that's been layin' around for at least 25 years and it was fine.

I heard it takes 90 odd years before the primer compound in ammo goes off and makes ammo useless(can anyone confirm this?). 0 -

I would not advise standing in front of any ammo that was loading correctly and stored correctly no matter how old it is.
I have personally fired ammo over a hundred and twenty years old and it does go bang.

Stored properly, well made ammo will last longer than any of us.

If it looks OK it probably is. I had 70 year old ammo that most of the batch worked OK, the only bad ones were the ones that were cracked or separated.
