does anybody still manufacture 22 longs. I never find them locally.

Yes, CCI makes them. Just ask your local gunshop to order them.

Ditto. Evidently, CCI is the lone manufacturer of both the CB long and long cartridges (see the link). Remington apparently dropped the long within the last several years. The long is headed for obsolesence because there is no need or functionality that it possesses that cannot be obtained in other 22 cartridges.

The long was introduced several years prior (1871) to the long rifle (1887), so it is the older catridge of the two.
I didn't realize long cartridges were becomes so scarce. Maybe someone else will know of another source.

A friend has an old auto. pistol that is chambered for .22 long. CCI is the only one I could find that still makes the high-velocity .22 long. The cb longs will not operate the action. If your pistol is chambered for the long only, you cannot use anything else, that may be why they are still relevant!!

Because Winchester chambered several different older models that will only take Longs (e.g. Shorts and Long Rifles can not be used in a Model 1873, Model 1890, or early Model 1906 that is marked for 22 Long).

There are plenty of old 22 Long revolvers out there having cylinders too short for 22 LR. 0
