1911 extractor breaking

my hobby is building up old 1911's,I build alot on Sistema's,my favorite 1911 keeps breaking extractors around 500-700 rounds.I use just standard colt extractors "and they work well on all my 1911's except this one" but the last time I used an Ed Brown and it still broke today at around a 1000 rds.I live in Arkansas about 75 miles away from Wilson Combat are their "bulletproof" parts any better,I wish I could just go by and get one installed "$60 installed and tuned" but by their web site I have to mail it to them and wait weeks for the repair.who makes the best extractor out there?any ideas why I keep breaking them on just this one pistol?

thats just grease on the slide in the pic,here is how it shoots,7 shots 25yrds,I just cant keep extractors in it.

    That's about $50 out of line, including the labor to install it. Compare the breechface to known good 1911. See if maybe the slot for the extractor puts it too close or too far away from the case rim, or lets the extractor protrude too far forward from the front of the breech? Are you letting the slide slam shut on an already chambered rd? That's very hard on the extractor you know. Where are you getting these "Colt" extractors? Sarco jumk, maybe? Check with Numrich Arms-McCormick for an extractor or two. You might also have a too rough chamber, which is making the brass hard to extract. You might try putting in another barrel, or polishing the chamber.

    if you can buy an extractor installed for $10 including labor your better than me,most of my Colt extractors did come from Numrich but I do have some WWII military surplus,2 in a brown bag,chamber is smooth,breechface is good,I will take my mic and measure how far forward it is compaired to other sistema's I have

    Hello I think the symtom is broken extractor but cause is chamber of Barrel.IMHO "praise the hard-ball gun"

    Have to use a caliper to measure the distance out from the firing pin hole, too. Those extracors cost Bill about $3 each, and he pays his smiths about $15 an hour, and installation and checking of an extractor takes about 2 minutes. Maybe you are happy paying somebody $500 an hour to do simple mechanical work, but I wouldn't be.

    I always used Wilson extractors and never had one break. I think Perry Shooter has it nailed, try a different barrel.

    Do yourself a favor and learn to ignore the troll. They contribute nothing except hate and discontent on websites such as this.

    I use Wilson bullet proof exclusively, and yes ignore cloop

    To diagnose the reason you must first tell where and during what event it is breaking, the most "common" reason for the to break is slamming the slide down on one in the chamber, they are not designed like the berretta to be able to do this

    Please describe when and how they break

    I'm the one that told him to watch out for slamming the slide on chambered rd, beware a rough chamber, and check the dimensions of extractor and breechface. You Johnnycomelatelies then REPEAT what I say, and claim YOU knew it. What a bunch of clowns you are.

    Not really an answer to the question but a few things to remember cloop...Wilson spent huge dollars to develope the parts. has them made and carries inventory in excess of a million dollars. Has an extremely costly building with high taxes paid on it. Then factor in heat, utilitis, maintenance etc. Most people who complain about prices have never run a business and most probaly couldn't, it's why 90% of them fail within a year. Wilson spent years building a reputation as a good builde and he is one of the best.
