22 hornet military use
one aution on gb has old milsurp ball ammo for sale. why/how was the 22 hornet used for the military?

The 22 hornet round was for the M6 combination rifle/ .410 shotgun that pilots carried at one time. They had to have ball ammo. (Geneva Convention?). There is an original M6 on auction right now. Sorry I did not include a link, just look for M6, and you can see it. The newer Springfield M6 rifle/ shotgun is 18", where this is 16" requiring BATF approval. 0 -
The airforce had a 14" barrel, 5 shot bolt action survival rifle. I have seen the military 22 hornet ammo for these. The were generally in 9 round packs. 0 -
Iconoclast gave me a whole history on these, unfortunately it was one of the corrupted files that I lost with a hack attack. The O/U version of the Air Force survival gun was the Stevens .22/.410, and used the M35 aluminum .410 shotshell loaded with #6 shot.
The .22 Hornet box should have an amusing warning on it, something about "Not to be used against enemy personel".[:)]

I just happen to have a box of Remington Kleanbore, .22 Hornet ammo that is loaded with 45 grain soft point bullets. The box has a labeled pasted to the side that reads "Under no circumstances is this ammunition to be used for offensive or defensive measures against enemy personnel. This ammunition is provided for use with your emergency survival rifle for the killing of game for food under emergency survival conditions only." The box is the old green and red Remington style. 0 -
