Winchester Model 12 symbol No. help

Hello,
Can anyone provide any info on the specifics of the following Winchester Model 12 symbol No.'s which are on original hangtags? Symbol No. 1232 marked Supergrade, Symbol No. 1280 marked Skeet Gun and Symbol No. 1294 Marked Skeet Gun. These are the yellow buttplate shaped Winchester hang tags with the red Winchester name at the top and the small white price circle at the bottom. I know the general specifics for the tags but am hoping to find exactly what options the symbol No. designates. Thanks for any info.

    Hello Uintah: Well that's a tough one, because every variation had it's own number, such as 1243 was for the Trench gun, 1293 for the riot gun, Then you have special ones like G12SRW which was for a 16ga, solid rib, 12-5 engraving with the stock emblem, 1206 was for a 12ga, plain barrel field, so those are just a few. The "hang tag #" is suppose to agree with the box label.

    You might want to pick up a copy of Dave Riffles book, "The Greatest Hammerless Repeating Shotgun Ever Built", he has a lot of that info in his book but not everything.

    (ref:1956 winchester catalog, pg 43)

    1232: supergrade field, G1232SN 16ga, 28" full, MR,(MATT RIB)

    (ref: 1954 winchester catalog, pg 20)

    1280:G1280S M-12 SKEET, 20GA, 26" skeet, MATT RIB

    i just checked all the winchester catalogs back to 1950 and from 55 to 50 it shows the 12ga skeet gun being 1284S. check closely and tell me if it is indeed an 8 and not a 9?

    Thank you for the excellent information you provided. I should not be surprised someone on this forum could provide such detailed info. I did look at the tag again and it does appear as a 9.

    okay, either its a misprint of its post 60. the 12 ref #'s changed in 57 to another obsure number with a 15 in it. maybe someone with ref's to before 1950 can help? good luck!

    i just checked all catalogs from 60 to 64 and 72 to 80. they dropped the ref numbers in the catalogs. 59 was the last year. so, the answer to the riddle will lie in a pre 50 catalog...or its a misprint that should be 84 not 1294 for the skeet gun.

    I know 28 in barrels were also available, as well as the WS-II choke, still looking fopr those numbers!
