Discoloration on cylinder

I just returned home form the range and as I started to clean my .500 S&W I saw on the outside of the cylinder that there was a discoloration that I know is heat induced. I know that the .500 runs a hot load, but I am concerned that I have a problem.

My question is, what are the experts opinions? Should I be concerned or is this normal to see on stainless handguns? Please give me your input.

  [8D]-Yo 257, May I ask a couple questions[?]-Were you shooting LEAD cast-bullets[?]was the "discoloration" right at the forward edge "evenly" around[?]Were the Cart's CORBON 375 gr or heavyer[?]--I ask, because I don't get ANY on my S&W 500 or any of my SS revolvers--JIMBO

  This is normal. If you want to remove the discoloration, apply a product called Flitz. It is usually found at any gun store and is advertised as a metal polish. Don't let that alarm you. Flitz contains NO abrasives and is even safe to use on a blued gun without hurting the blue. It uses some rather amazing chemical action and will easily remove heat caused discoloration.
