Vernier Tang Sight Question?
I recently bought an old Stevens Favorite 22 single shot rifle. It came with a vernier tang sight on it. The sight has a hole spacing of 1.5" and it's overall vertical height is like 3". It has numbers on the side which are not real understandable. But it has no identifying make or model number on it. What I am trying to figure out is weather this sight is old or a newer reproduction. So did the old vernier sights come unmarked or marked and who made the verniers?

Stevens did install vernier tang sights on many of their higher grade single shot rifles, but it would be rare on a Favorite. None of the original vernier tang sights used on the various makes & models of old rifles was marked with a makers name. Depending who actually made teh sight, it may have an application code stamped on the underside of the sight base. If the numbers (that you do not understand) are on the left side of the elevation staff, those are range (distance) marks. If you can post a picture of the sight, I am positive that I can identify it.
