Blackpowder Question

From what I've read there is two basically different kinds of blackpowders, one is for pistols and one is for rifles. Is there one that would be for both? How many different kinds of black powder are there?

If I'm wrong please correct me, I won't be offended.

    I am thinking about going blackpowder hunting this year. Any suggestions on the best value for the dollar on a rifle? It will be used for deer and hogs in Texas.

    The older I get the better I was.

    A lot of guys have gone to in-line muzzle loaders. You may want to also, but to just get in with a good working rifle for not a large investment, look to a used TC Hawken. You can pick them up around me for under $100 and they will do the job just fine.

    The Savage 110ML is a good one to consider, very accurate, and the price is decent. It uses smokeless power so not a big deal to keep clean, and that is a big plus. I plan on keeping, and using mine for a long time to come....

    Gun control is hitting what your aiming at.

    The Savage does get high marks, but smokeless powder rifles are not legel for BP hunts in some states, check your regs before buying.

    I picked up new in the box 50 cal T/C black diamonds for less than $150 shipped last spring right here on GB , 209 primers nice wood stock , every body seems to want the new stuff like the omega or savage , so thats making the regular in-lines cheap , do some looking around you should be abel to get a bargain

    I am fond of my underhammer carbine in 45 though you might want a little larger if looking at big pigs. I like the "not newfangled" look and the lock time is about the same as the inlines.

    Personally I say go traditional BUT with that said it is a pipe dream to say that because most want inlines over the traditional rifles. With that said, for the money I suggest the TC Encore for one reason, you can buy 2 calibers of BP barrrels, a shotgun barrel, and many center fire caliber barrels. The rifle is very accurate but there again pretty pricey. Barrels are not cheap but cheaper than a complete new rifle. Teh Encore gives you the chance to have a wide range of calibers on hand with just one frame and 3 forearms (1 for muzzloading brrels, one for shotgun barrel, and one for centerfire barrels). IMHO, the TC Encore.

    Now if you want to go traditional, there are mant out there that are all dgood, decide which way you want to go.

    Education is nothing if common sense and manners are not in the curriculum!

    The Thompson Center is a nice rifle and all like jjmitchell60 says, but what fun is it to have a big gun cabinet with only 1 gun in it and a whole bunch of barrels. I like to look at several guns, plus it gives me an excuse to spend more money on other fancy gizmos for the guns, and on top of that , it gives my wife something to complain about and I don't want her to not something to complain about or something is seriously wrong.
