what is the defference between a 32 special and a 30-30 and also can you shoot a 32 in a 30-30 and vise-versa

    Can I suggest the 32 Special's sizing diameter is .323 while the 30-30's is .308?

    Same reason a 308 Win won't fit in a 7mm-08 or 243.

    POWER (FPS/ENERGY/FT.LBS.) IS ALMOST IDENTICAL BETWEEN THE .32 AND .30/30. YOU COULD SHOOT A .30/30 IN A .32 BUT WHY; LIKE ONE OF THE OTHER POSTERS SAID A .308" BULLET BOUNCING DOWN A .321" BORE WILL NOT BE VERY ACCURATE

    30-30 Win Ballistics
    170 Grain CL
    Velocity 2200 feet/sec at muzzle
    Velocity 1061 feet/sec at 500 yards

    Energy 1827 feet/lbs at muzzle
    Energy 425 feet/lbs at 500 yards

    My memory is very hazy on this, but a loooong time ago I remember reading that the .32 was not as accurate after the barrel was worn. It may have had something to do with having a slower twist in the rifling of the barrel. Anyone else know anything about this?

    I vaguely remember reading something about the .32 Win Spl being designed for use with either smokeless or black powder. It is the same basic ballistics as the 30-30 but was for old timers who didn't want to join the 19th Century using smokeless powder. The larger diameter didn't foul so easy as the 30-30.

    Sky, between us, we had it pretty well covered. I found this in the No. 8 Speer reloading manual.

    "The .30/30 has a 1-12 twist and even barrels which are pretty well shot out will keep a bullet in the .30/30 point on. On the other hand the .32 Special is made with a 1-16 twist, so it could used with black powder without hopelessly clogging it up. The result is that once the .32 Special barrel gets a bit worn you can't hit the side of a house with it."
