3.5" Barrel Work on 3" Gun - 1187
So will a barrel for an 1187 with 3.5" receiver work on an 1187 with 3" receiver? If so, will cycling lighter loads be an issue?

It should the extractor is on the barrel,,gas ports in there also.
Just like you can put a 2 3/4" barrel on a 3" mag receiver it works fine.

All Model 11-87 barrels are interchangeable within gauge with the exception of the Model 11-87 Super Magnum. There are however two different barrel contours, light contour and standard contour. A standard contour barrel will not fit on a gun with a light contour fore-end. This is most commonly encountered when purchasing an extra deer barrel to use with a Model 11-87 Premier. A light contour barrel will have a gap on either side of the fore-end with a standard contour fore-end. If you wish to purchase another fore-end please complete and fax a Parts Order Form to us.
Model 11-87 Super Magnum barrels chambered for 3 1/2-inch shells cannot be used on non-Super Magnum Model 11-87 receivers. Also, Model 11-87 barrels with 3-inch chambers cannot be used on Model 11-87 Super Magnum receivers. Super Magnum receivers have serial numbers that end with the letter "A".

Well I reckon that says it all.
Anyway I have found that most Companies will give just about every piece of info they have with a simple E-mail. Heck I e-mailed henry about their Golden Boy receiver and got a reply from the top dog himself and couple from customer service as well.0
