WIN. M-12 3" ?

I just picked up a m-12 (#672,xxx) with a 3" mismatched barrel assy. (#1,517,xxx). I know that win. lists a different ejector for the 3" but are there any other receiver differences between the 2 3/4" and the 3" guns. My plans are to rebuilt the gun for trap shooting (for the wife) so it probably will never see a 3" shell but you never know.

    Hello Mike...

    The ejection port is a bit longer on a true 3-inch gun. If you intend to shoot your mismatched gun with the longer 3-inch shells, you may experience hangups during ejection.

    Hello Mike: Well there is a lot more differences than the ejection port. The receiver is machined differently, the slot for the action slide is deeper, the action slide bar is wider, the slot on the bolt is deeper to accomodate the thicker bar, the bolt is a hair shorter. The trigger guard assy, is machined shorter, the carrier is longer. The barrel chamber ring is set in deeper on a Magnum receiver. Plus the cartidge stop is different. I do not recommend shooting 3 in shells, since the receiver wasn't set up for it.

    thanks for the info. I did some measuring and the receiver is for 2 3/4" ammo.Like I said this is intended for a trap gun and I figured the extra weight would be a plus. The barrel had been cut to 27" so I installed win. chokes, it has a solid rib. Why someone would butch up a good shotgun like this in beyond me.
