20 gauge slugs rifled barrel

Does anyone have any experience shooting 20 gauge slugs through a rifled barrel? I've always shot rifled slugs through the smooth bore and I recently picked up an Ithaca Deerslayer 20 gauge with a rifled barrel. I figured it's time to step out of the dark ages! I'd like to hear what luck different people have had with various brands of slugs. We hunt deer in Illinois where only shotguns with slugs is allowed.

    Both of my sons hunt with 20 ga. Remington 870's with rifled slug barrels. I hunt with a 12 ga. Remington 870 also with a rifled slug barrel.

    We have experminted a lot over the years and have settled on three different brands of Sabot slugs. My son's 870's are exactly the same but shoot better groups with different slugs. My oldest son uses Winchester 2 3/4" Sabots and my youngest uses 2 3/4" Federal Sabot slugs.

    Buy a box or two of a few different brands and try them out.

    Williams81 has the key. Doesn't really matter what works for us, because you will have to figure out what your shotgun likes, and trying different rounds is the way to do it. You can also shoot rifled slugs as well as the saboted slugs from a rifled barrel.

    Mine shoots best Lightfields 2 3/4
    lites

    Also 2 3/4in seem to pattern better
    then 3 inch but You should try some
    anyway

    Yup...Each one likes a different meal. My 500 with a Hastings loves the BRI type while my father in law's 600 loved regular Sluggers

    We use federal 2 3/4 sabot with the barnes hp. If your gun will shoot them as good as our nef (2") at 100 yards, they will do the job well.
