Have a model 12 16 ga and was wondering how fo you find out what chamber it has if its 2 3/4 or 2 9/16 i've measured a standard 2 3/4 case and come up with 2 5/16 doesn't make sense need help thanks

  Hello elkmaniac: rule of thumb on the 16 & 20 ga. Md 12s, if the chamber size isn't marked on the barrel or the receiver below the serial number, it's a short chamber. In 1927 Winchester standaried both gauges to 2 3/4 and started stamping the guns. 1927 S?N's started at 464,565 so if your serial number is below that, it is or was a short chamber. Back then a lot of gunsmiths would open them up, most steel stamped 2 3/4 on the barrel. but some didn't.
  
  A 2 3/4 in shell is 2 3/4 in. after it's been fired and the crimp has opened.

  Serial number would tell when your gun was made. Mine is marked 2&3/4 right under the choke marking.
