A friend of mine is thinking about purchasing an AR type rifle from another friend who has it for sale for $800. It has a Bushmaster lower, a Rock River Arms Elite UTE upper (has the rear sight built into the non-removable flat top) an Aimpoint Comp sight (discontinued model), a 20 round and two 30 round magazines. The UTE upper is a 16" preban, with both a side and bottom sling mount. The Bushmaster lower has a 6 position collapsible stock.

Your thoughts would be appreciated.

    As long as there is a tight fit between the upper and lower units the price seems fair to me. [8D]

    Typo on my part. It should say post ban, not preban.

    Greg's probably right about the price, but I'd still be a little uneasy unless I knew who assembled it, & his skill level. That's a lot to spend for a Mixed Parts Mongrel of unknown origin if it turns out to have "problems". Personally, I rather spend a couple hundred more for a complete factory gun.

    The assembler is a known quantity. He is a firearms instructor and knows his weapons. Not much more can be said about the parts. The upper is completely Rock River and the lower is completely Bushmaster. No other parts come in to play and the assembly is just pulling the pins, putting the parts together and repinning.

    I just wanted to see value opinions as I do not keep track of the market on AR type rifles.

    Not a bad price, but I think you could do better.

    You can get a new Double Star from www.centerfiresystems.com for $699.
    www.kyimports.com had some used Colt AR-15 post ban and Bushmasters for around $799. Not sure I would go $800 on a mix match.

    $700 would be a better buy.... my .02

    $800 seems a little high to me. Espescially with a non removable handle. I bought a brand new Bushy M4 with the removable carry handle and all the goodies for $850. As someone else said, $700 seems fair.

    $800 seems high to me too, I'm not familiar with that scope though.
