Lazer range finders.....any good?
Hello all,
I am thinking of purchasing a Lazer range finder for deer hunting this year, It will be used strictly for long-range Rifle hunting in PA not to exceed 400 yards. I was wondering how reliable and accurate they are and who makes the best one at an decent price. any info you guys have would be great.

A lot depends on the distances you are looking at I have a Monarch 800 made by Nikon its very dependable and resonable priced but don't buy it at retail you can find some good deals on it, 1/2-yard precision at 400 yards and consistent ranging capability up to 800 yards which it good enough for my use. On the lower scale simmons and BSA make some not sure how good they are but for a medium priced RF Nikon is your best bet IMHO. Hopes this helps.0 -
Had a chance this weekend to use the new Swarovski range finder. My first impression was....WOW! It is incredibly accurate and has a longer range than most of its competitors. This is a must have!....will be ordering mine next week. 0 -
Greeting fellow Pa hunter I can tell you NOT to get a Bushnell Sport model Its fine for bow hunting but i cant even range a traget the size of a hay bale at 400. 350 is tops and it has to be a really reflective target I hope that helps out. what part of Pa you hunt? 0 -

Leica LR 900. Everybody at my camp that tries it, ends up buying one. Surperb optics. More range capability than any deer hunter would ever use. Just my .02.... Good luck.. 0 -
I've been using the Bushnell Quest the last couple of years. Have not had a problem with it so far.

Leica is the route to go. I checked out numerous range finders. You can certainly spend $300 and be disappointed; or spend the extra $100 and end up with great glass, and flawless performance. Leica's don't need a salesman . . . the product sells itself. I don't have stock in the company, I just own and have used my 900's for ranging everything from prairie dogs, antelope, to elk. The only regret I have is that I didn't buy the 1200's (but I didn't really need them). 0 -
My older Bushnell 1000 has served me well for a lot of years with no problems at all, and it has ranged good targets out to over 1300 yards.
If I were to ever need a new one, I would look really hard at the new Burris.
