going hog hunting in texas & was seeking advice on the best type of bullet in reloads to give maximum penetration & stopping power.......thanks

    Do not use Hollow points. When using a pistol cartridge for game hunting use a soft point or flat point bullet with exposed lead. Hollow points will expand and most likely not give the desired penetration causing a shallow but dramatic wound channel, a soft point bullet will be able to smash through bone and tissue and hopefully be able to exit or nearly so and still provide a good wound channel and the penetration that hollow points lack. Use a heavy bullet driven at a good fast rate of speed and still maintain your shootability ( accuracy and recoil).

    bert h......ruger super blackhawk 7 1/2....got #4300 265 grain flat point, clad bullet with small lead point or 240 grain tmj-sil with a little larger flat point that is also clad......haven't tried any 300 grain sp.....???????????

    Definitely do not use a HP. I made that mistake, only once, with my 45-70. Wasted a ton of meat.

    I use a 310 grain wide flat nose gas checked semi wadcutter. It seems to be the most bullet that I can fit in my marlin. I could go heavier for the ruger revolvers, but like to stick to one load.

    I use the Hornady 200 gr XTP hollow points for whitetails and they work excellent without severe meat loss. I realize we are talking Texas hogs, but I like the performance of the XTP on whitetails. I did not realize the hogs skin was that much tougher than a deer to cause a hollow point to flatten out so much as to do all that damage. I use the XTP's in the Ruger Deerfield and the Super Redhawk. I have to admit, that Speer bullet looks like it would be an awesome hunting bullet. I might get a box at the gunshow this weekend.     Lyman 429421, cast out of Linotype. Put that bullet over a case full of your favorite powder, (within loading parameters as published} and it will penetrate just about anything. The flat Meplat of the Keith style bullet transfers energy in a big way. The bullet is deadly accurate and very easy to load for.

    Hog be dead.
