old SxS shotgun
I have this old shotgun, it has wrighting on the rim of the chambers- FLUSSSTAHL- on one side and,- KRUPP-ESSETT- on the other side. Also has Belgium markings under the chamber, with ser.# 20031. Also, do not know what guage it is. The chamber is .737in., and the end bore is .677in. Is this a 16ga. or 20ga. Also, could someone help me with attaching a photo.[?][?][?]

I have come into the possession of a side by side 10 gauge (2-7/8) damascus shotgun with hammers. The gun is unique in that it does not break open, but instead has a button where a safety should be, and when the button is engaged, and the hammers are back (either half or full cock) the barrels and foreend twist to the either the left or right allowing access to them. They also have hand ejectors on each barrel. The gun was finely made and appears to be english. It has a straight grip stock made of english walnut. The gun is marked "FF BOYD & PS TYLER" and pattened 7/21/68 repattened 12/29/68, which I assume means 1868. I only paid $100 for the gun, and am having it proof tested by Griffin and Howe, as I believe it can be a good shooter with vintager ammo. However I would like to know what is is? and how much it is worth? Can anyone help me? 0 -
The bore & chamber diameters you have given is consistent with a 16 gauge shotgun with NO choke, almost as if the barrels have been cut back?
Krupp is a famous German steelmaker located in Essen Germany. Flussstahl, I believe means fluid steel. If the markings aren't spurious?, It would seem that the barrels would be of high quality and not of Damascus type construction?
Don't take the above as gospel. If you have any inclination to shoot the old girl, take it to a COMPETENT/QUALIFIED gunsmith for inspection and test firing, before pulling the triggers.
Here are instructions for posting photos, they have worked for other folks in the past.
First thing you need is a site to host your picture. What I mean by that is that you will need to upload your pictures to a web site that will host(display) them for you. You should not use your hard drive to host pictures for safety sake. Use www.photobucket.com to host your pictures.
After you have uploaded your pictures to the site that will host them for you(per their directions), the next thing you will want to do is go to the picture hosting site and view the picture. While you are viewing the picture, right click on it and you'll see another window that should pop up, now click on "properties" and copy the picture URL. If you know how to "copy & paste" this will be a piece of cake.
Now that you have the picture URL and your ready to post your picture. Do the following, use the following code except take out the "*" asterisk. The "*" asterisk is used here only so you can see the code. In other words if I posted the code without the "*" asterisk you will see a picture instead of the code. Anyways use this code to post your picture..

Here is my photo. I know it is not a 12ga. I would also like to know if someone can tell me what MAKE & MOD. it is or could be. Also, what could it be worth? It's about 70%.

If it was a high quality/valuable gun it would have either a manufacturers or retailers name, IMHO.
With just belgian proof marks, my 2? is that its just a utility/sporting shotgun, that was originally sold inexpensively.
To have any value nowadays beyond being a decorator to hang over the fireplace, the barrels would have to be steel and the chambers the correct length for modern ammo.
Your going to have to take it to a gunsmith who knows something about shotguns to ascertain this.0 -
Check the Water Table ( the flats under the rear of the barrels ) and see what they say...REALLY look it over under magnification to see if there is not SOME manner of name on there...Does it look to have been redone/modified in any way?...Notice the high and low position extractors, or are they ejectors? Really long sidelocks look odd. Sorta looks like Dolphin head hammers...All in all, I would guess a fairly nice quality trade gun done as an assembled Belgian and German gun. Lots of people like 16 guage...that might make it worth a few extra bucks. Answer a few of those questions and we might be able to add more. Pretty old gal, by the way!
