pellet rifle
The starlings are back. I would like a good 17 cal pelet rifle, with scope. What is a good brand and ype to purchase? Thank you.

it says on some pellet boxes that you can use them for varmiting but i think it would be a bad idea even if the .177 cal pellet is going almost as fast as a .22 LR,could you hunt squirrles with this? 0 -
It would depend on the rifle, and distance you shoot. I have a RWS 52 and it is extremely effective on squirrels. 0 -
I've seen squirrels drop with a high-powered .177.

I have killed a lot of bunnies and squirrels with my RWS 34 and Sheridan Blue Streak .20 cal. There are some pretty potent air rifles out there, such as the 25 cal. Kodiak, wich I believe pushes a .25 caliber, 22 grain pellet at 1050 FPS. Thats equal to a .22 short fired from a pistol.

Ya know alot of us, including myself, grew up in our back yards taking down scores of squirrels and rabbits with a .177cal pump Daisy.
Although, ground hogs and racoons just had to thick of skin, plus they would not let you get as close.
With these New piston action .177 cal and .22cal pellet rifles that can shoot approx 1200fps, I don't see a problem with knocking some varmint down.
As long as you abide by your local laws on this matter, of coarse.

The right .177 cal pellet rifle is capable of taking down many small game animals. It'll kill anything from birds to armodilla (head shot on the dilla). A flat nosed pellet from one of these has some pretty darn good knock down power, you might be surprised.

I help my neighbor by clearing out the squirrel populations in his almond orchard using my pellet rifle in .177.

I have a cheap Chinese sidecocker that will bury a pellet an inch into soft pine. It is an effective squirrel killer. 0 -
I was in San Antonio about a few weeks ago and were my Uncle lives theres abunch of stray cats well you cant discharge any type of firearm so he went and bought a Gamo 440 I tell you what one word describes the results Carnage [}:)]. I would recommnend a Gamo 440 for small vermin. 0 -
I have the Gamo 220 Hunter and it is very effective on squirrels. I use the hollow point pellets from Beeman and always take a head shot. It drops them like a rock and most of the time the pellet exits also. I was impressed because when I was a kid, it took multiple shots with the old Daisy 880 or Crosman 760 with 10 pumps. I personally would not try to hunt anything bigger than a rabbit with a pellet gun.
