10/22 mag's.
Hi does anyone here use 50rd drum mags for the ruger 10/22?.
I use butler creek 25rd hot-lips banana mag's becuse i have never had any real feed problems with them, but my local gun shop has these 50 rd drums that sort of look like a tear drop or a pear shape, i dont want to fork out 80 quid for one until i know they are good, so if anyone here has used them what kind of performance did you get out of it?.
Im thinking of replacing my factory standard bolt and getting a lighter aluminium one so i wont have jam problems as i mainly use sub-sonic ammo.

The magazine Small Arms Review did a review of various hi-cap mags for the 10-22 and, IIRC, the various 50-rounders were all rated as poor choices for reliable feeding.

Hi thank's for the reply, ill keep away from these 50's, i must admit i was hopeing to find a good 50 as in the past i got a ramline one which will jam quite a lot, only a few types of ammo work with it.

You should see the price of beta c-mags $536.93.
Or even 100 rds of .50 bmg @ $406.43.
That's why i buy most of my stuff from the u.s not ammo or anything like that.
A 68 year old boy at my gun club went and got 600 rd's of 9mm from the u.s to save a few quid he is retired so he doesent have much money, and it got stopped at customs when they raided this dangerous person's house with the kevlar commandos waving there mp5's arround he had his guns and reloading stuff taken away, he did get it all back in the end minus a few bits that happend to have been lost in transport.

Hi,
I believe the manufacturer of the 50 round drum magazine is Mitchell. I have one and it fed every with not one FTF or FTE. The problem is the rotating spring mechanism which drives the belt inside the magazine and which is extremely DELICATE. It is so delicate that if the winding key accidently slips, the springs will break resulting in the total loss of the magazine. I would recommend not to buy one of these.
As a result, I switched to Ramline 50 rounders which has caused problems with both FTF and FTE, but at least it will work for a few rounds after clearing the jam. However, many users of the Ramline 50 rounders report reliable operation. I now use mostly Eagle brand and Butler Creek steel lip mags. These seem to work the best and are practically flawless.
