how good is a .50 caliber musket ball about 200 grains going about 1500 fps for hunting deer

  It's suitable, with well placed shots, to maybe 100yds. It's about like a 6" barreled 44 mag revolver, 1000 ft lbs of power. No expansion of the ball, so a hit thru both lungs might let him run 200 yds, but half that far is more typical.
