Remington VSSF 22-250-Action Misfeeding

I recently purchased a new Remington 700 VS-SF 22-250. I had it out to the range for the first time today. I found that if when loading rounds into the clip, I slide the shells all the way to the rear of the clip, then the 2nd to last round does not stick up high enough for the bolt to catch the edge of and push forward into the barrel. And, it only happens when I fully load the clip, and then only on the second to last round. However, if I don't slide the shells all the way to the rear of the clip, then I don't seem to have this problem. My friend who has a different brand 22-250 said he has the same problem if he loads the shells all the way to the rear of the clip. So, I was wondering if this is common and nothing to worry about?

    compare it to the length of the magazine,..that magazine was made to feed everything up to the 308class which is both fatter and longer. The magazine follower is probably contoured for the larger cases as well,..so the 22-250 falls somewhere in the middle of the 222/223 magazine size and the 243/260/7-08/308 magazine size. Sounds as though you simply need to keep them foreward in the magazine. I have run into the same problem in several rifles in varying calibers. I find that sliding the rounds too far back often makes feeding a bit problematic. Keep the tips close to the front of the magazine and you should be fine.

    why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....

    Thanks for the reply. I hadn't thought about the fact the magazine is probably made for multiple other calibers. I also dropped an e-mail to Remington asking them the same question. I'll have to post their response on here once I receive it.

    not able to answer the question, seems like there's a few logical answers already, but normally when loading a magazine for a bolt gun i tend to keep the rounds more toward the front of the magazine well to make sure that they are picked up by the bolt just in case i get in a hurry and short stroke the bolt sorta speak, if for some reason i don't pull the bolt all the way to the rear, i have that extra bit of space the cartridge is riding forward as leeway. Just my personal habit i guess
