P22 Troubles
I bought the Walther P22 about 4 months ago and i loved it until tonight. I shot around 500 rounds out of it with no jams or any serious problems. Only an occasional misfire becuase of garbege ammo. The majority of the 500 rounds were remington hollow point cheap $10 special for the 500 count box these rounds all went through smoothly. i just bought some new federal lightings 22 these are regular lead heads. Tonight everything started off good the only thing was for some reason after you fired a shot another bullet would not automatically go into the chamber you would actually have to manually take the slide back to put another round in the chamber. This would not happen every time just about 40 -50% of the time it was very annoying and it really was pissing me off. I just took the gun apart and it looks like it always did inside so i dont think anything is visually broke. i do not have much knowledge about working on guns so i really do not have any ideas? So can you guys let me know what you think?

Looks like the Federal Ammo don't have enough power to send the slide back far enough to pick up a round from the mag? [:)]

to be honestly believe it or not the federals seem like they have more power the the remington hollow points, upon impact of hitting cans the can flys further with the federals then the remingtons. also the guns just seems more powerful in my hands so i just can figure it out. and also when i shoot a round the slide does not even move at all at times and at others it will go back and take another round out of the mag. i am puzzled??? 0 -
The P22 is very picky about what you feed it. They'll feed anything thats copper plated, but choke up when the bullet is exposed lead. If I'm not mistaken the Federal Lightning are exposed lead and not coated in copper, which will be your problem.

I have a S & W that is 100% reliable with rem golden bullets and jams every shot with federals. The differece is the shape of the rim. 0 -
copper or brass plated 40grn bullets. The lighter and un-plated rounds will cause failure to feed.

Federal 22 ammo is known to burn very dirty. I'm assuming that your gun got gummed up. I bet it will shoot fine after a good cleaning.

i own one of these guns too. i would check cleanliness. we shot some of the lead stuff, only a few hundred rounds of it, but in almost 1500 rounds we have not had a misfire or a jam yet.
overall i am very very hapy with the p22.

Have had the same problems, but most of my shooting is with a suppressor.
What I have found is that the P22 likes hot loaded jacketed bullets, but I also shot alot of sub-sonic lead round nose also.
What I have found is that the P22 does not like getting dirty, especially the slide and lowers innards.
Once the dirt & debris get into the slide and lower, it wont feed worth a damm.
So I soak it overnight in Kroil Oil, use a toothbrush to clean the visiable area's. Then re-dip into the Kroil oil and blow off with compressed air, before taking it to the field.
This procedure works everytime and she is good for atleast another 500 rounds, before having to clean again.

This particular gun is notoriously ammunition picky (as are many .22s).
As Beeramid said, you'll probably find that copper plated heavy and/or high velocity bullets work the best in the Walther. Stick with the ones that work, and you'll be fine.0 -
My P22 isn't that ammo sensitive but as Moose has pointed out a little dirt can screw it up quick.
