What makes a gun C&R eligible?

I was thinking about getting a C&R license to feed my Milsurp habit. can anyone give me the quick and dirty as to what makes a gun C&R eligible? All informed answers, as always, are appreciated.

Or being on the BATF list of C & R firearms. If a person applies to the BATF and proves that their firearm meets the BATF criteria for being a C & R, they will put it on the list regardless of it's age.

Call BATFE and get a copy of the C&R listings.

All C&R's are NOT on the list. Refer to bobski's reply above.

Plus, military firearms must be in their "original issue configuration".

And, some states do not recognize a C&R for use in acquiring guns, or maybe just pistols.

New York state laws disallows the shipping or receiving of pistols even though they are legitimate C&R pieces. You can buy them but
they (pistols) must still go through a FFL.

And they rip you off big time here. I just sold a Colt Woodsman to someone out of state. The FFL dealer charged me $85.00 for the transfer fee plus $40.00 for shipping and then I had to pay the SCPD $5.00 to have it removed from my pistol license.

BATF site is down now, but I believe you can download the list when it's back up or apply online for a C&R license and they will send a package with a lot of C&R info. Joe
