    I have an old Winchester 30-30 that was my grandfathers and would like to find out what year it was made in. How would I go about doing this on-line?

    Yes, as long as you don't have a long range shot, over 200 yards.

    Under 150yd, in dense cover where fast handling is important, than yes.
    If ranges are long, or fast handling is less important, than there are better choices.

    Some guys like a mag full of lead, I still prefer one round to the head.

    Probably more deer have been taken with .30-30 than any other caliber in NA. That said, keep it under 200 yards.

    The 30-30 is a great round to hunt deer with. My father hunts only with a 30-30 he has taken more deer than any one I know, he keeps track of his distance after each kill, His longest kill with his Winchester 30-30 was just over 300 yards. I have hunted with a Marlin 30-30 for years I have taken deer at over 250 yards. We both have shot on the run and long steady shots. The 30-30 is a great gun to use in the brush to.

    If you're talking lever guns the range/acuracy/stopping power can prolly be imprved upon by loading boat tail spire pointed bullets BUT ONLY LOAD ONE IN THE CHAMBER,ONE IN THE MAG. TUBE.PERIOD.
    The old cartridge is good for deer,fer sure.
