Beretta question

An oldtimer back for a bit...glad to see the Captain & Nunn are still with us...Guys, I need help with a shotgun question:

I have a Beretta O/U that I have had for twelve yrs plus (prior to youngest son birth)given to me by family friend. There is no serial # that I can detect...or I totally missed it...my strong point is rifles not shotguns.I have no idea how old it is...it is in very good shape. It is a 20 gauge, 3 inch chamber. It has the following markings on the barrel.

High strength Chromium Molybdenum steel
BL-3
P. Beretta Gardone VT
Gardone Sporting Arms Teaneck NJ

Being as my youngest son has developed an instant bond with my 20 gauge 870...I have been using the Beretta to shoot claybirds with him and get ready for the upcoming season.
I would like to hunt with him and not have to use two types of shells.

My question is: Can I shoot steel through this shotgun without bulging the barrels or otherwise injuring an heirloom...

any info greatly appreciated...

    Hi folks. Does anyone have any info on the Border Marshal model .40 cal Beretta? New/used price range, durability, ect? all impressions/ info would be appreciated! thanx[:)]

    Hello TEXAS the question you ask has no right answer. some people like one and other people like the other model. Sort of asking which is better ford or chev.most people here have never had and used both models and have no way of knowing.

    Well, the carbon steel they chrome line so the lead and copper would not get burned in into steel, it allows easy cleaning. It seems that stainless steel doesn't have that weakness of having softer metals to be deposited in such a way that carbon steel allows.

    However, pressure - wise, which metal has more tollerance and scratch (from slide) resistance?

    Hello IMHO there are allways trade offs no one shoots a chrome lined barrel that I know of in a pure target gun "THIS MIGHT BE OF LITTLE INTEREST" to your use of a pistol. and SOME stainless steel will GAULD unless a special lube is used. some alloys of stailess don't have this problem . sorry but again your question is asking for an opinion and most people do not own 2 pistols one of each type . It is not like a question "does a colt 1911 gov. model have a 5 inch barrel" I dont think for the normal use you could go wronge with either one

    Hard chrome is porus so if not oiled can develope rust pits under the chrome and flake off. This is almost never a problem for a gun bore. I would guess that Berretta made a decision based on cost, not performance.
