Low Cost Hunting Ammo for the .308

Out of curiosity have any of you used in your .308 the lower costing ammo brands such as the imports made by Selliers&Belliot,Silver Bear,and PMC ??
Compared with standard made at home ammo such as Remington corelocks or Winchester power points how did the lower costing ammo do in terms of accuracy and getting the job done on game such as deer or antelope??
Any preferences of one over the other??

    i would wager to say that remington factory ammo as well as winchester factory ammo would not be that expensive. Sellier & Bellot is the only one of the three you mentioned I would go with. I thought PMC only made FMJ rounds.

    I'm not an expert, but i did stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night.

    www.pmcammo.com will give you the info on PMC ammo. They make many different styles of ammo and use various brands of bullets including Barnes. They also have their own forum.

    since nobody responsibily fires more than a half a dozen rds a year at legal big game, why risk using less than the very best ammo, hmm? You can do your practicing with milsurp ammo, after all. Why let a "savings" of 50c a shot cost you a lost or horribly wounded animal having to be chased down? That's ridiculous.

    Cloop,it's not that i am trying to cut corners,especially on a fine game animal such as a Whitetail Deer.
    I use Federal Premium 165 gr BTSP in my .308.
    But i was "curios" how some of these other brands would work.
    That is if anyone even had used them that could get back a report about them.
    Being low cost does not mean low quality.

    good site snow. i had never seen pmc in anything other than fmj. but are the sierra and barnes any cheaper than remington or winchester factory? if they don't cost much more they would really be an upgrade over core lokt bullets.

    I'm not an expert, but i did stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night.

    just a thought....check out the new "fusion" ammunition from federal...they are supposed to be the ballistic equivalent of a premium bonded bullet but because federal has found a way to cut the manufacturing costs they cost similiar to non-premium ammo

    imay not know it all.....but at least I know that!

    Have used PMC in .243, 100 grain spitzer soft point. Found it to be very accurate and was a surprisingly hot load. Ex wife killed her second whitetail buck with them and he didn't complain, 75 yard one shot broken neck and a nice big exit wound.
    As for the other brands I have no first hand knowledge, however some will dis-agree but deer and antelope sized animals just aren't very tough to kill if shot where you are supposed to shoot them, I find no need for a premium bullet on that size animal unless you are using a .22 centerfire.

    A box of the best 20 rds is but another $10, above the cheapest. That's plenty of rds for zero-checking and several hunts. I wouldn't risk losing a cripple for $100,much less $10.

    Go to www.grafs.com and check out their line of PMP Ammo. It is loaded in Africa and if it is good enough to be used in Africa, it is good enough to be used here. It is loaded with Speer and Hornady bullets. Also check out the UltraMax remanufactured ammo, it is loaded with Speer bullets.

    so what? If a few people do fire a dozen rds a year at big game, that's still no reason to complain about "having" to spend an "extra' $1 per rd for top performance.

    I always get PMC and PMP ammo confused with one another.[;)]
