Essex 1911s. . .any thoughts?

Anyone have any experience with these?

My main question is, are they spec, in the sense that you could swap in/out new parts pretty easily?

    I have built over a dozen 1911's on a stainless Essex frames and never had a problem,I know there are some who do not like them but my everyday range gun is an Essex build and I have many thousand rounds through it.

    Ditto to Sharpshooter039. I have built many of them and kept two for myself. Parts interchangeabilty is not a problem with an Essex frame or slide any more than it is with some other makes. There are so many Govt.Model-type manufacturers these days, both of complete pistols and parts, that often a little filing or polishing is needed to make them compatable.

    I have an Essex build and I love it. Its as accurate as anyone can ever hope for and it shoots great. I also have the stainless frame and it has a blued slide. It will keep up with any Colt or Kimber on the block. I will try and post a picture of it later. Photobucket is being a pain tonight.

    My shooter, fun gun , carry and trust is essex frame and slide. No problems. Many years old now, just keeps on working.

    IMHO

    Essex = home made 1911. Might be a great shooter might be a dog.

    I seen lots of Essex receiver 1911's at gunshops asking lots of
    money ($400+).

    Don't buy one unless you can shoot it 1st or it's so cheap ($200 or under) that you can't pass.

    Yes I must agree , I also have built several 1911 style guns on essex frames , as well as sold several , just remember , it says essex , not colt....
