Open Sight question.
I have a Williams Receiver Peep Sight on my Remington 700ML. I'm at the very top of the adjustment for height, and the temp was about 85 degrees fahrenheit when I sighted in. Will my point of impact change as the temp goes into the teens? The front sight is the factory sight. Would I need to go to a lower or higher front sight to get more adjustment out of the rear sight?

Zero change with temp ? Maybe but how much would be hard to guess. Yes you do have the righ Idea the front sight must be shorter to get the group to move up . A taller rear would do the same thing but then the stock might need a change IMHO go with short front sight Remember with a receiver mounted rear sight the sight radius is longer so larger sight changes are needed to make the group move the set amount. 0 -
Point of impact should change with cooler temps as pressure will be higher in hotter temps. Higher front sight will lower your point of impact. 0 -
Many Ballistics programs have the capability to change the temp in there environmental parameters, I haven't messed with this in my Sierra Infinity program but will have time to do that tonight, give me an estimated velocity and what projectile you are shooting and I'll run it, I guess the temp change will be minimal (fractions of an inch) but I'll check it any way.
On another note I would go to a shorter front sight to get more adjustment out of your sight, it always scares me a little if you are up against a wall so to speak with your adjustments. As mentioned by someone else you could raise the rear sight, doing so with a shim or another solid method unless you feel this would raise your cheek up too much, very little would be required though.0 -

The external balistics program will compensate for the varying temp (air denseity), but his biggest concern/effect will be any velocity change due to temp (internal balistics) and how that affects his quarry (terminal balistics).
Some guys like a mag full of lead, I still prefer one round to the head.0 -

The minor difference that you would find, in cool weather, on game at open sight ranges are not worth worring about. Hold on fur and pop the shot. 0
