armalite magazine clips
Hi everyone I need help fast, I want to bid on a pre-ban ar180 that looks great but the picture shows no clips. I had one earlier but mine was an ar-18. Are they one and the same? Will I be able to find ammo clips for a armalite 223 pre-ban/. Thanks, you guys here are the most knowledgable people on any forum anywhere.

Bid quick, mags are NO PROBLEMO!
The mags are the same!
Used to be there was one mag to fit both the AR-15 and AR-18. To recreate that magazine today you will need:
1 AR-15 magazine
1 DremelT tool with cut-off wheel
1 Small hammer
1 Roll of black electricians tape
1 Piece of flat wood or metal that will slide inside mag body.
To convert, procede as follows;
Remove spring and follower from mag.
Slide wood or metal into mag body and slightly peen down the stop on the left side of the magazine. This permits the body to slide into the rifle.
Slide body into mag well until it come to a stop. With sufficient pressure, push mag release button in to etch the mag body. Remove mag and insure you can see the mark.
Install TWO of the thin DremelT cut-off wheels together (provides perfect thickness) on your tool.
Take the strip of electricians tape and use as a level guide under the mark you made on the magazine.
Using the center of the mark as a reference and, with a steady hand, cut the slot that will allow the mag to lock into the weapon. Examine the catch in the rifle prior to know how long you will need it. A little long DOES NOT HURT. Too short and it will not fully lock.
Reassemble mag and test fit. That's all there is to it.

Forgot to mention, I've converted a dozen or so like this. The beauty is they also still work in an AR-15
Don't get in a rush, use about 4000 or 5000 rpm on the Dremel, go easy so it doesn't bog or chatter. The metal is so thin you go through in less than 15 seconds. Once you do the first one, it takes about 5 minutes to convert a mag.
Sorry I didn't know where to find a C&P of this procedure. Maybe someone else can.

Thanks p3skyking, I bid on the rifle and hope all goes well.It looks as if there is 1 40 round clip coming with the gun,I will round up some 20 rounder to go with it. Big Willie[8D] 0 -
If you just want to buy mags, Triple K in San Diego will sell you some. I've seldom seen a 40 round anything work the way it supposed to.

bigwillie: If you do not win let me know. I am going to be selling my AR180 hybrid. It is an AR180B lower with an AR180 pre ban upper. Best of both worlds. It takes standard AR mags and the gas action of the AR180. [8D] I had 7 Orlite mags converted to be used in the AR18/180. They are all great. I have 4 original 20rd mags and 4 of the Sterling 40rd mags. They all work great. The AR18/180 is a fine rifle.

The 40 rd. Brit made Sterling mags being sold nowadays have the cuts for use in both AR18/180 and AR15 types.
They aren't expensive, most you find are made from steel rather than aluminum and they're well made.0
