280 Ackley Improved
I have a rifle believed to be a 280 Ackley imp. caliber. and have a fire formed case . Would like the case dimensions of the 280 Ackley so I can comfirm the caliber.

Lot of variations in the so called improved cartridges, depending on who made the reamer, i.e. shoulder angle, neck length etc.
Do a Google search, using "280 ackley improved" and other similar search terms. Hope for the best.

Brownells sells chamber casting alloy, with full instructions, which you can melt with a good heat gun. All you do is plug the bore with a bit of rag, ahead of the bullet. Remove the cartridge and bolt and pour in the molten alloy. I helps if the the receiver/barrel hub area are warmed up, but overall it is not tough to do. This will give you a positive model of the chamber and let you go from there. This is way better then trying to measure a case fired in the chamber. 0 -

Casting a chamber is usually the accepted process for determining an unknown chamber. If you have a piece of brass that has been fireformed in your particular chamber, measure it and compare to the drawing below.
rufe-snow is correct from the standpoint that there are endless variations to 'improved' cartridges. If yours does NOT match the drawing below, e-mail me and we'll try to work something out with your dimensions.

Basically, the AI cartridges have the case blown out to a minimal body taper and the shoulder increased to 40 degrees.
Save the seals-club a liberal instead.0 -
it is one of my favorite chamberings I have. As Nononsense stated,..if it doesn't match pretty much EXACTLY (given ~.001 spring-back of the brass) then it is most likely NOT a properly done chambering job.
why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....
