.38 CIA Taurus vs. .38 S&W???

I need some advice on which "hammerless" piece to purchase as a concealable. I like the Taurus and S&W both, but not sure if one has an advantage over the other. I like the grip laser sights that the S&W offers, but not sure that I want/need them for the added cost.

Any help would be appreciated.

    IMHO, the Smith is a higher quality gun but the Taurus is not bad from what I have seen. Being that its American made, I would personally rather have the Smith and the Crimson Trace laser grip packaged one now available from Smith is pretty nice. I do own a Smith & Wesson 442 hammerless 38 although without the laser grips. I've never actually owned a Taurus but have handled and fired a few and they seem pretty decent to me. The fact the the Taurus 650B .357 CIA DAO is less than half the price of the S&W 340 could be a deciding factor in your purchase I'd think.

    Taurus is a copy of Smith & Wesson, that should tell you something right there

    Go for the 640, the resale on the Taurus will get you in the long run, it is gold when a dealer has one to sell you, but when you need to sell it, it will be "it's just a taurus now if it where a smith"

    Taurus makes very good guns,but the Smith may be a little better and the Smith will probably bring more than you paid for it if you ever want to sell.

    Is the 340 a new line of Smith for the 342? I looked at a 342 and it appears to be the same as the current 340. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    As I understand it, the 342 was a .38Spl. and the 340 is a .357Mag.

    Aren't they the same thing...? I thought that the .38spl and 357 could be used synonomously.
